In order to keep our students and staff safe, Henry Ford Elementary conducts multiple fire, disaster, and lockdown drills each year.
We must teach and familiarize our students with proper procedures, routines, and evacuation routes to make certain proper actions are an automatic response whenever an alarm sounds. Drills also allow our team to measure time to evacuate and to make sure the routes to the exit doors and transitions are smooth. Drills provide us with needed information to continually edit our plan in order to have the best procedures in place.
Drills also give us an opportunity to prepare our students so they are familiar with the loud sounds of the alarms and do not get scared when one goes off. It is important they are relaxed and calm in case there is ever a real emergency.
Having home drills are also important. Consider practicing at home as well. Click here for a home safety checklist.
